Unauthored Quote
Two days before starting this literature class, i had just arrived back home from a traveling minimester. I took this field geology/biology course to be my last science credit. One of the places our class traveled to was Zion National Park, Utah. While shopping at a bookstore right outside of the national park, i found several coffee mugs with quotes on them. Being the poet/dork that i am, i got out my notebook and wrote a few of them down. My favorite one that caught my eye was a quote without an author that read "all your dreams come true IF you have the courage to pursue them". I think i liked this quote so much because it is so accurate. The way i interpreted it is : If a person really wants something in life, but does not strive to achieve it, chances are they will not get it. One has to fight to get what they want and in most cases, if one does fight for something, he/she is bound to get it. If one is too scared to stand up for themself, how is he/she ever going to accomplish anything? In life, there are bound to be risks that may or may not be necessary to take and it is only one person's choice whether to take it or not. This reminds me of a line of lyrics by 3 Doors Down from the song "It's the only one you've got". It goes "If you're afraid to fly, then i guess you never will...you've gotta live this life you're given like its the only one you've got". I think this also highlights the point that we only get one life and we will waste it by not taking chances and striving to achieve our dreams/goals. I used to be afraid to try new things and to put my heart out for other people to see. That was the loneliest point in my life and now that i have grown mentally, i am not afraid to try even if i fail. This quote "all your dreams come true if you have the courage to pursue them" has now shaped my life... I still don't know who wrote it though :)

What a great quote. I am the dork that copies down words and phrases I like in various books that I read. Cheers to you for finding a pivotal point in your life in a souvenier shop in Utah.
ReplyDeleteI think your 3 Doors Down quote was very appropriate. I love their lyrics and music, and often listen to them when I am feeling contemplative.
True talk sir. I like how sometimes a monumental moment can be found in the most unlikely places. Meaning is always construed by the reader and it is important to remember those instances that hit hard with significance.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very good quote and I agree with you about it being true. If a person is not willing to sacrife somethings how are they ever going to get anywhere in life? If more people would realize that it would be a completely different world. :)
ReplyDeleteRyan, No one is responsible for your happiness. Only you. So, your quote, I think, is very true. Another one that reminds me of the 3DD lyrics is from Eleanor Roosevelt: "Do one thing everyday that scares you." I have consciously tried to follow this, and I believe it has pushed me to expand my life through experience.
