I Gotta Feeling (Like Oh Em Gee!)
I was not feeling very creative tonight and didnt know what to write about. So i decided to go on Itunes and check out the lyrics to the number one song of all genres. The song at number one happens to be I Gotta Feeling by the o-so-loved Black Eyed Peas. Not only are they back together after a few painful solo albums and embarrassing performances (*cough* Fergie!); they are back with a whole new set of mature and well-written lyrics. It starts out by repeating "I gotta feeling, tonight is gonna be a good night" somewhere between 3 and 11 times and progressed to the heart-felt 1st verse: "Tonight's the night night, Let's live it up, I got my money, Let's spend it up, Go out and smash it, Like Oh My God, Jump off that sofa, Let's get get OFF". This just goes to show the brilliance of the hip-hop/pop/r&b (or whatever the hell else you wanna call it) mastermind in todays world of "music". In particular i liked the part "Like Oh My God" cause thats exactly what came to my mind after realizing this was number one most downloaded song on Itunes. But wait it gets better! Here comes the 2nd verse! "Fill up my cup, Mozoltov, Look at her dancing, Just take it... OFF, Lets paint the town, We'll shut it down, Let's burn the roof, And then we'll do it again" If i was too harsh of a critic before, let me apologize. Black Eyes Peas is very good at... rhyming...o and being repetitive. So pretty much this song is about what most popular music in our generation is about. Getting drunk and having fun WUHOO! I mean really could there be any higher purpose in life? Obviously B.E.P. doesnt think so :) I invite you all (who ever even checks this blog out) to check out the rest of "I Gotta Feeling" s lyrics by Black Eyed Peas. I will provide a few more highlights if you don't get the chance. "Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Saturday ta Sunday, Get, get, get, get, get with us, You know what we say, Party everyday". I "gotta" hand it to them, they sure do know their days of the week.

Sure beats the disco stick song. Talk about ridiculous lyrics. I'm sure Andrea Bocelli cares about making a connection with people through his music, but maybe not so much the Black Eyed Peas. Do you think those lyrics reflect their demographics? Meaning, that people age 18-30 are just about partying and having meaningless sex? I'm not passing judgment, just asking the question?

ReplyDeleteBlack Eyed Peas who? No just kidding, I personally dont care for this group maybe because I dont listen to this type of group lyrically but I like Will I Am and Fergie I think they make great music when they are soloist but I do like the song "boom boom pow" it got a touchy beat to it just dont care for the song lyrically.
ReplyDeleteI was raised a country hick and you wont find anything but country in my music collection. I like everything from Hank Sr. to Tobby Keith. I think our taste in music has a lot of how we are brought up and where we are brought up. In my case I was brought up in a small farmering comunity in the 1980's. My parents also listened to country music and I can remmeber many vacation trips listening to the 5 0r 6 8 track tapes that took up the entire area between the front seats.
ReplyDeleteThis blog posting made me laugh. I can appreciate sarcasm when I see it.
